Google has slowly rolled out a feature they call Chat Features for Android Messages. It sends messages over the Internet instead of via the telephone network and provides modern chat functions in a way that works between different apps and devices. If you have switched to an iPhone or other phone that does not support chat features, it is important that you turn off the chat feature so as not to miss messages.
Android Messages chat feature
If you change the phone without deactivating the chat function, messages will continue to be sent to the old phone, if the chat function has not been deactivated manually. You can disable it quite easily but there are several different ways.
The first option is the simplest. You start by opening the Android Messages app. Click on the three dots at the top right. Then select Settings. Then select Chat features. There you can turn off the chat function.
If you are not able to open the app for any reason or even do not have the phone left or have cleaned it, you can turn off the feature on the web.
- Go to this website.
- Scroll down to “Without your previous device”.
- elect the country for your phone number, then enter your phone number.
- A six-digit number is sent to your phone. Enter it on the website and press Verify.
You have now disabled the instant messaging features of Android Messages.
All messages will be sent normally to your phone.
To re-enable the feature, you can open the Android Messages app and visit the chat features setting.
